When most people think of craft beer, the public library isn’t usually the first place that comes to mind. But, Jefferson County Public Library is bringing beer and books together with Stouts and Stories, Ales and Tales, a six-week celebration of beer and books.
Stouts and Stories, Ales and Tales kicks off on Oct. 1 and runs through Nov. 15. Highlights of the series include a brewery passport, TED-Style talk and tasting, tap parties, social media contests and library events and crafts.
The entire program and all related events, including the Talk and Tap event, are free. But, you must be 21 with a valid ID to participate.
Beer passports will be available at any Jeffco library, Jeffco brewery, or On Tap Credit Union starting Oct. 1. Participants can get their passport stamped at any brewery in Jefferson County to earn prizes. Three stamps earns a koozie or bottle opener and six stamps gets an etched pint glass.
On Oct. 11, Tim Matthews, Oskar Blues’ Head of Brewing Operations, Tamar Banner, New Belgium’s Brewing Supervisor and Travis Rupp, The Beer Archeologist from CU Boulder will lead a TED-style talk and tasting event. Stouts and Stories, Ales and Tales: Craft Beer Talk and Tap takes place from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11 at the Lamar Street Center. Tickets are required and can be reserved at jeffcolibrary.org/beer.
The idea for Stouts and Stories, Ales and Tales came from a “Shark Tank” type presentation which the library staff participate in to come up with new program ideas, according to Cindy Matthews, JCPL’s Promotions and Marketing Manager.
“Last year, it was proposed that we offer a celebration of craft beer in Jeffco to build community and help people who may not be familiar with all the library offers rediscover Jefferson County Public Library,” Matthews said.
Besides bringing visibility to the breweries in Jefferson County, another goal of Stouts & Stories, Ales & Tales is to show that the Jefferson County Public Library offers more than books.
“We hope Stouts and Stories, Ales and Tales not only celebrates craft beer in Jefferson County, but that our community is pleasantly surprised to learn about all the activities and services offered free at Jefferson County Public Library,” Matthews said.
In addition to the brewery passport and the craft beer talk and tasting, the following events are scheduled as part of the series:
