Pliny the Elder

The bottom line is this: If you're a hophead, you'll like this beer.
From the moment you crack open a bottle of Russian River's Pliny the Elder, you are in hop heaven. The sweet and hoppy aroma is one of my favorite things about this beer.
It pours a dark yellow, not quite amber, liquid with a substantial head.
The first sips bring a hint of malt and tastes of sweet pine, which later morph into bitter citrus on the back of your mouth. This is a beer who's flavor lasts long after you swallow.
Even at 8% and unlike many Imperial IPAs, Pliny doesn't feel thick when you drink it.
To a large extent, reviewing beer comes down to personal taste. My only criticism of Pliny the Elder is that it's a bit too bitter on the finish for my tastes. I like a little more sweetness.
If you put any stock in lists, you might be interested to know that Pliny the Elder was named the Top Beer on Planet Earth when BeerAdvocate.com did it's 1,000-review minimum list of top beers. It's currently No.2 on the normal list.
